in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Godly compassion (Mark 7:24-37)
Jesus comes to Lebanon! Today's Gospel reading centers on two stories of healing and a whole lot of compassion. Jesus is trying to keep a low profile in order to teach his disciples and not draw opposition, but can’t refuse to wonderfully and miraculously change peoples lives when people seek him out. In both stories
family and friends go to Jesus on another’s behalf. This is an encouraging
reminder to us all to not grow weary of doing good when it appears there is no hope! Let us keep brining the brokenness around us to Jesus and be persistent in prayer and faith that he can and does bring his Kingdom into the here and now. The crowd were overwhelmed with amazement at the new life Jesus brought their friend,  “He has done everything well,” they said - Let us also praise Him who has done everything well.

Please stay after the service for refreshments - All welcome!

Sunday 28th June

Service Leader: David Roche
Preacher: Ewen Todd
Worship Leaders: Amy Roche & Karim Girgis

Readings: Psalm 30   --- Matthew 113:24-30, 34-43

Collect
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Hidden in Plain Sight
With opposition to his ministry growing Jesus wanted to share the secret of the Kingdom of God with his disciples through parables, but to those on the outside these were incomprehensible: "they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding." Much is hidden in plain sight, and only after the coming of the Holy Spirit could they and we understand their true meaning.

Please stay after the service for refreshments. All welcome!

Trusting God in the Storm
On Sunday January 25 1736 John Wesley's Journal records his observation of Moravian missionaries. They were on board a ship bound for America when hit by a terrifying storm, most passengers were crying in fear yet the Moravian missionaries held a service and calmly sung praises to God. Wesley writes ‘From them I went to their crying, trembling neighbours, and pointed out to them the difference in the hour of trial, between him that feareth God, and him that feareth him not. At twelve the wind fell. This was the most glorious day which I have hitherto seen’. Following Jesus does not mean that we never encounter trouble, pain, fear, but we can learn to trust in Him, lean on Him and in faith know for ourselves the peace he longs to give us and that when he said he would never leave us or forsake us he meant it! What ever the storm we may encounter Jesus cares for us and is there with us, not looking from the shoreline.

Collect
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father: give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Next Sunday, 28th June, there will be a Jumble Sale after Morning Worship. Come and browse for bargains!!!

Service details for Sunday 14th June and Church notices

Sunday 14th June
Second Sunday after Trinity

11:15am Morning Praise

Service Leader Kristi Lonheim
Preacher : Peter Ford
Worship Leader: David Roche

Readings:
1 Samuel 15:34 - 16:13
2 Corinthians 5:14-17
Mark 4:26-34

Collect
Lord, you have taught us that all our doings, without love are nothing worth: send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whoever lives is counted dead before you. Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ's sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We all know that the Christian life is not always clear and simple path. Much of the time, we face situations that are difficult to resolve or explain: natural disasters; the tragedies of political and religious conflict; disappointment with the shortcomings in ourselves or in others. Nevertheless, we confess that God is at work in ways we do not understand. The Season of Pentecost reminds us that much of the Holy Spirit's involvement in the world today is hidden from our view. Today, we consider those around us -- relatives, friends, colleagues -- who seem to be slow or unresponsive to the roles that they have in the family, at work, in society, or in the church. We remember that the Spirit is still at work among them -- and within us -- bringing to fruition God's purposes according to God's timing.

Sunday 7 June 2015
First Sunday after Trinity

Reverend Imad Zoorob presiding
Service Leader & Preacher: David Roche
Worship Leaders: Jonathan Acker & Kristi Lonheim

Readings: 1 Peter 2: 4-10, Luke 9: (51) 57-62
Collect
O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

The Cost of Following Christ
Today our Gospel reading focuses on the important consideration we must give when we say to Jesus ‘I will follow You’. There can be no playing games with the master, no double mindedness, if we belong to Him our lives are not our own. He has called us out of darkness into marvellous light; when Jesus is our first priority we see that he has called us to be a ‘holy priesthood’, we belong to Father God and we belong with His people. Having received mercy, grace and new life we are to proclaim His Kingdom. In all we do, we should remember the Lord’s encouragement ‘freely you have received; freely give’.

Notices:

At our AGM we set a budget of $42,000, which means we need an Offering of $10,500 per quarter, and we achieved that in the first quarter of 2015! As we look forward to Summer, when the Offering is traditionally low, please consider how you give to All Saints’. Our Mission Giving means that we donate 10% of our Offering to charity and we will see that in evidence today as we present a cheque to Rev Imad for St Luke’s Centre.

Trinity Sunday
11:15am Morning Praise
Service Leader & Preacher: David Roche
Worship Leader: Andrea Smith

Readings: Philippians 2: 1-11, Matthew 3: 1-17

Collect
Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

The Tri-unity of God
Today we explore who God is as Trinity! The Athanasian Creed from the 5th century says, 'we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity; neither confounding the Persons; nor dividing the Essence. For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one; the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal, and yet they are not three eternals; but one eternal...the Father is Almighty; the Son Almighty; and the Holy Ghost Almighty. And yet they are not three Almighties; but one Almighty. So the Father is God; the Son is God; and the Holy Ghost is God'. Connect all the dots by using only 4 straight lines, connected end-to-end.

Ascension Sunday
Last Thursday was Ascension Day, when many church traditions (including Anglican) celebrated the moment when Jesus made his final dramatic departure from his disciples. A special service was held here at All Saints Church, but since many would not have been able to attend, we are remembering the Ascension of Christ today. This event tends to be overshadowed by the two major holy days on either side of it, Easter and Pentecost (to be celebrated next Sunday). Our Scripture passages and reflection will focus on how Ascension Day fits in the church calendar, its meaning for the disciples, and its importance for the life and witness of the church today. Jesus may no longer be present with us physically, but the events surrounding his Ascension remind us that he is very present with us spiritually!

Resurrection Fruit
In this Easter season we have studied the blessing of Unity (Psalm 133), and on the day of our AGM we considered our calling to care for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, and to live in a way that blesses those outside our faith community (ACTS 3). The local church is the hope of the world (Bill Hybels). Today our focus is on the encounter between Philip and the Ethiopian; the fruit of remaining in Christ (John 15) leads to the fruit of telling others about Christ (Acts 8). Philip was obedient to share the good news about Jesus and invested time with the Ethiopian, who represents those who are geographically and ethnically far away. In Christ there is no discrimination and all are welcome! Although we are not all ‘evangelists’, we are all called to live out the gospel and bear resurrection fruit in the way we behave and speak. Scripture is clear, where opportunity arises, we should make the most of telling others the most important news anyone will ever hear. Who will you tell this week?

A huge “Thank you” to everyone who gave so generously to last week's Special Offering. We gave $765 to the  Assyrian Refugees via NEST.
Thanks also to everyone who made the Jumble Sale such a success (especially Dorothy!), we raised $230 for the Relief Fund.

All are welcome to join us for Refreshments downstairs after the service.

The Parable of the lost Son
This week our All Age Service will include a fun-filled dramatic presentation of Jesus’ story of the lost Son, featuring a star-studded cast from Young Church! We will then  reflect on some of the  amazing challenges arising from the parable, as we consider the three main characters in the story. Firstly, the younger son, whose blatant and cruel selfishness led him not only to set his own life in jeopardy, and having caused great pain to his Father, took him to  the point of profound learning  as he understood the truth about himself and  the extravagant grace of his Father’s love. But was the older son not also lost? What are we supposed to imagine happened after the Father came out of his house, to beseech the older son to  come home and join the celebration? How might we resemble either of the sons? Jesus’ story is a picture of the inexhaustible love that the Father has for each one of us, and his desire for us to remain close to him.

Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such knowledge of His presence with us, that we may be strengthened and sustained by His risen life and serve you continually in righteousness and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Resurrection People
Last week we studied a theology of Resurrection Unity, a key foundation on which we must build, as we consider our vision and core values in light of the AGM today. This week, we will explore what is means to belong to a family of people who follow the resurrected Christ; the Bible says the same power that rose Christ from the grave lives in us! “Our prayer is that people in this land will turn to God and find faith and hope in Christ that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19). This means we have a job to do, our ancestors did not endure two thousand years of persecution and faithfulness to give us cheap church, in the words of Sir Francis Drake (1577) Disturb us Lord!!

Today ASIC AGM: members are invited to stay after the service.

The AUB Campus Home Group will start again this Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 pm, we will begin a study of the Gospel of Mark. Any new members at All Saints’ are welcome to join us. Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: grant us to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Resurrection Unity
The overarching theme of our lectionary readings this week is unity, which is interesting since this comes hot on the heels of celebrating the resurrection of Christ - the resurrection which made all the difference to the way early Church believers formed ‘church’. We will explore the doctrine of Koinonia (Fellowship) and unpack the theological concept of perichoresis (describing the relationship between each person of the Trinity) and see how they form a creative force of community and spiritual formation. As we prepare for our AGM we will see that understanding common-unity is a bedrock on which we must build our vision for the year ahead lest, the foundations be crookèd if we are not one in heart and mind.

Sunday 19th April ASIC AGM, in church after the service.

Mission and Work Focus: Saturday 18 April 10-11:30am. Come and have coffee at church as we gather together those working in all varieties of missional contexts; teaching, aid, admin, & more. This will be an informal time with an aim to share, network & receive prayer & encouragement.
