Pentecost Community Lunch

On May 27th we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, and to help us do that we will be having a community pot luck lunch after the service.  We would love all those who are able, to bring a dish from their home country or just a favorite, to share with the church community.  Please email or speak to Sarah Shehadi sarahgshehadi@gmail.com and let her know what kind of dish you will bring to make sure we have a good mix of savoury and sweet.  If you can come to church wearing yellow, orange or red, that will add to the atmosphere of the service, reminding us of the flames of the spirit that came on God's people.

We will also be saying our farewells to a number of people from the congregation who will be moving on from Lebanon this summer. It is a time to thank God for them and their part in this church family, and to send them with our love and blessings. If you know people who will be leaving or if you yourselves are planning to leave, please email and let us know, we don't want to miss anyone!

I find it interesting that Pentecost is a day kept by ancient Israel in the Old Testament and also by the Church. I assume the Jews observe it today - you may know better than I do living close to the state of Israel.

The description of the Old Testament Feast of Weeks, as it is called, is important for Christians because it helps tie the concept of first fruits with Pentecost, and it helps us to understand that the Church is only the first fruits, not the main harvest to come, as I point out in my article.
