Service leader and preacher: Nabil Shehadi
Readings Psalm 147:1-11 Colossians
1:1-14, 24-29
Welcome to the second Sunday of
the month Worship and Word service. Youth Group and Young Church start in
church and leave for their groups after the first set of songs and celebration
of birthdays.
Theme: Holy Habits (1) - God's Initiative
and our Response
We continue in the season of Epiphany ("the
manifestation of God in Christ to the Gentiles" ) with Paul's letter to
the Colossians. Paul is passionate about the Gospel to the
Gentiles, and it is not just about theology, although he gives us (in Col 1:20) one of cosmic dimensions! It is also about how we, as "holy ones"/saints
in Christ, live our lives in a way that continues to manifest the beauty and
glory of God. In the next few weeks, and into Lent, we will look at how we "put on the new self"
(Col 3:10) through the Holy Habits - as Lucy Peppiatt calls the Spiritual Disciplines in the book I recommend to you for this journey:
"The Disciple - on Being Truly Human" (available as an e-book http://www.amazon.co. uk/The-Disciple-Becoming- Truly-ebook/dp/B00A0549HA ). It all starts with
the amazing Grace of God that saves us, and continues with
our joyful response to it as followers of Jesus - "Christ in you the hope of Glory" (Col 1:27b).
