Service details for Evening Prayer Sunday 8th November

Sunday 8th November 2015
Twenty third Sunday after Trinity

4 pm Evening Prayer
Service Leader & Preacher Pastor David Roche
Worship Leader: Karim Girgis

Readings: Psalm 127, Mark 12:38-44

Collect
Almighty and eternal God, you have kindled the flame of love in the hearts of the saints:
grant to us the same faith and power of love, that, as we rejoice in their triumphs,
we may be sustained by their example and fellowship; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today: Jesus measures the widow's offering, based not on the amount that she gave, but on the amount that she kept back for her own use, nothing! This vignette calls for
wholehearted self-giving that transcends dollars as our lives give back to God everything of who we are because of all that He is. Giving to God should be an act of worship and not out of compulsion. Giving is an expression of love and gratitude for the grace of God in our life. We don’t give to get back we’re simply saying to the Lord it all belongs to Him and we want to honour Christ in response to what he has done in our life so that his Kingdom may be extended.

Today: We celebrate our belonging to a family of Saints spanning two thousand years of Christian heritage. We have been baptized into a family with an everlasting future! We give thanks for Saints past and present, as the grace of God moves amongst us. I do hope you feel engaged in the life and mission of our community, one practical way you can
support our work is by financial support for All Saints’. As a church we are self-financed and do not receive any institutional support locally or from abroad. I would like to invite you to consider your financial contribution to All Saints’ so far this year; contributions help us in our community work, within our congregation and maintenance of the building. This week we will take a special offering towards upgrading our sound system and construction of doors where the PA is housed. Please give generously!

Service details for Sunday 25th October and church notices

Sunday 25th October 2015
Twenty First Sunday after Trinity

11:15am Morning Praise
Service Leader & Preacher Pastor David Roche
Worship Leader: Amy Roche & Karim Girgis

Readings: Psalm 126  - Mark 10:46-52

Collect
Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today: Our Gospel reading this week focuses on the healing of blind Bartimaeus. This blind beggar teaches us a thing or two about what it means to see with the eyes of faith because the eyes of his heart were open. His prophetic insight recognized Jesus’ royal
dimension calling him the son of David. This is contrast with those who were spiritually blind and refused to recognize the truth about Jesus. We can learn a lot in this story,
Bartimaeus had faith and was persistent in his calling out to Jesus, whilst Jesus ignored the crowd and listened to Bartimaeus asking what he could do for him. Jesus took the time to stop and heal him, let as also take time to stop and consider the care of others in need and ask what we may do for them. Jesus longs to restore those like Bartimaeus who have been pushed to the edge of society and make them whole again. What are your needs today? Cry out to Jesus and pray with expectant faith that he can move in your situation.
This story is rich with the good news of Jesus Christ available for us all.

Please stay after the service for Refreshments downstairs in the Church Hall.

Service details for Sunday 18th October 2015 and church notices

Sunday 18October 2015
Twentieth Sunday after Trinity

11:15am Morning Prayer
Service Leader & Preacher Pastor David Roche
Worship Leader: Wadih Masri

Readings: Isaiah 53:4-12, Mark 10:35-45

Collect
God, the giver of life, whose Holy Spirit wells up within your Church: by the Spirit’s gifts equip us to live the gospel of Christ and make us eager to do your will, that we may share with the whole creation the joys of eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today: When we come to faith in Christ, we are awed at how Jesus died for me, sacrificed himself on my behalf and this is the free gift of God, I just have receive it by faith! As a 'new creation', we climb into the 'first class' carriage of the train of the Gospel learning what it means to be sons and daughters of the living God and ambassadors for Christ. We anticipate the great things we will do for God. Then over the years as life goes on we come to realize that Jesus isn't sat in first class so we go to look for him. We walk down the train until we reach the last carriage '3rd class' but we still can't see him. We get to the last row of seats and turn around to head back only to see that the guy wearing an apron with the trolley is Jesus, waiting on people handing out drinks and food. This is what it means to be great in the Kingdom of our Lord.

Please stay after the service for Refreshments

Sunday 11 October 2015
Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity

11:15am Morning Praise
Service Leader & Preacher Pastor David Roche
Worship Leaders: Amy Roche & Karim Girgis

Readings: Hebrews 4:12-16 - Mark 10:17-31

Collect
O God, forasmuch as without you we are not able to please you; mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today: The word of God is living and active, it is a mirror reflecting back and exposing our attitudes. We must not only listen to the word of God but let it shape our lives. The rich man in our Gospel reading is disturbing figure, we can't argue this is someone else's story and not ours. He wants eternal life, he has kept all the commandments, but Jesus said, go and sell all your wealth and come and follow me. Jesus ‘loved him’ and told him to give his money to the poor, another way of saying give your heart and life to God! God Loves and accepts us the way we are but he loves us too much to let us stay as we are. Wealth had seduced him, he was self-deceived. Money has the potential to be destructive, having money in itself is not bad, but does money have us? Is money is our servant or master? The poor and marginalized matter greatly to God, we must not look past other’s needs. Understanding how much Jesus loves frees us to live in a way that blesses others.

Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us your gift of faith that, forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to that which is before, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Today: Legalism V’s God’s grace. The Pharisees come to Jesus to trap him on the subject of divorce. If they could get Jesus to pass judgment they could have him arrested. It's never good to have a discussion about divorce when someone only has a motive to
ambush you and quote the bible to beat you with it. They wanted to talk about divorce but Jesus wanted to talk about marriage and God’s intended best for us. They knew the written word but missed the heart of God, they used the scripture for their own selfish ends. This contrasts with the picture of God’s grace we see when we will receive his Kingdom like children. Children have nothing to offer, no status or human achievement only a
simple acceptance of  Jesus’ embrace. The kingdom of God does not belong to the mighty, the strong, the influential; it belongs to the weak, the insignificant and the unimportant. To receive the Kingdom of God, opens the door for our lives to be renewed and restored. Whether our marriages have failed or are healthy, God relates to us by his grace and mercy not through the law. Though the Pharisees and Jesus’ own disciples may try to exclude us, Jesus’ desire is to hold us, to hold our lives in his hands and bless us. Let us turn to Him afresh today like children and humbly receive his Kingdom.

Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity

11:15am Morning Praise, All Age Family Service
Service Leader & Preacher David Roche
Worship Leaders: Amy Roche & Karim Girgis

Readings: Psalm 92, Ephesians 2: 11-22

Collect
Almighty God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you: pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself, and so bring us at last to your heavenly city where we shall see you face to face; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today: We Are Family!
The theme of ‘trees’ continues. God’s best for us is that we are planted like trees, by streams of water yielding fruit for him. Psalm 92 tells us we will flourish like the Cedars of Lebanon when we are planted in the house of the Lord, only there will we bear fruit in old age, and stay fresh and green. The challenge to be rooted in God’s family is always a real one, both relationally and spiritually. Let us engage again with the truth that we are a new humanity, ‘no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.’ (Ephesians 2:19-20)

Today: Psalm 1
In our reading from Psalm 1, the person who follows God's ways is compared to a tree. In fact, the tree is an important symbol in many Bible passages. Today we examine, from the Bible, how trees can teach us about God's care for us, and how we can better live as true disciples of Christ.
